

Philip Thomas Murphey, age 91, passed away August 21, 2010. Mr. Murphey was a WWII veteran; he was born in Jena, LA and moved to New Orleans after WWII. He met and married his first wife Louise in 1942 and moved to Quitman, Mississippi. In 1956 they moved to Key West, FL operating and owning a hotel and in 1969 moved to Tampa, FL where he retired from the Hospitality business. In 1973 he came out of retirement, moved to Jennings La and built a Holiday Inn. In 1979 Louise passed away and Philip moved to Tallahassee, FL. In 1981 he married his second wife, Opal. They later moved to Jacksonville, FLA and continued in the Hospitality business until his recent death. Philip is preceded in death by his parents, six siblings and both wives. He is survived by his son Philip W. Murphey and wife, four grandchildren, one great granddaughter Ellie Harrison, a sister Orene Mann of Shreveport, La and several nieces and nephews in TX, AL and Ok. The family visitation to greet friends will be from 10 AM until 11AM on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Hardage-Giddens Edgewood Funeral Home, 729 S. Edgewood Ave, Jacksonville, FL. 904-388-2711. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM, with Reverend Bob Standifer officiating. Interment will be in Odd Fellow Cemetery in Quitman, Mississippi.
