Phyllis Bates Vandevelde

Phyllis Bates Bakley Vandevelde was born in Jacksonville, Florida on the 20th of October 1944.

She attended Duval County Public Schools and graduated from Paxon Senior High School in 1962. Phyllis taught in the Duval County Public School System and FSCJ. She held an M.S. degree, and taught Honors Algebra and AP Calculus at Robert E. Lee High School. After retiring, Phyllis was actively involved in K-9 Obedience Club where she served on the board several times and was awarded a life time membership. She was passionate about training and showing her toy poodles.

Phyllis was predeceased by her son Todd Bakley.

She is survived by her sister Caroll, nephew Michael (Andria), and his children Amelia, Hannah, and Camden. In accordance with her wishes, no service will be held.

Just wanted to give my condolence on your Aunt Phyllis and Math Teacher from Robert E Lee High School. My Thoughts and Prayers are with you Michael Lynn Thornton Junior and Family. What a sweet lady she was. Sorry to hear about You'll loss. May god be with you in the time of needs. I will be praying for all of you.
