

Ralph Daumit Saffy, 86, died peacefully at his home on Monday, May 16, 2016 one week after celebrating his 86th birthday with his loving wife and family. A native of Jacksonville, he was born May 9, 1930 to Sadie Daumit and Habib Solomon Saffy. His life was distinguished by his involvement in the community he loved. He found purpose serving in institutions and civic groups that promote justice, equality, and compassion by employing the democratic process.
Ralph attended Robert E. Lee High School and graduated from the Bolles School (1948) and the University of Florida (1953). He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant in the Infantry (1955-1957) and continued his service in the Florida National Guard. After 34 years he retired from Southern Bell as director of the economic and demographic forecast division.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Rae Saffy; his daughter, Rayanne Mitchell (Scott); his sons, Richard Saffy, and Randal Saffy (Laura); his brother-in-law, Grady Johnson; and his grandchildren, Michael and Samantha Saffy, Lauren and Ryan Saffy, and Georgia and Grace Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Edna Louise Saffy, Ph.D, and his son Ralph Daumit Saffy, Jr.
The memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, May 28 at Hardage Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida
