Rebecca Lynn Rogerson, age 42, walked to God, joining His heavenly choir on Wednesday, January 22, 2015, after a two week battle with RSV induced pneumonia. She is survived by her parents, Tom and Coreen Rogerson, uncles Rick (Celeste), John (Sherry), and Michael Morehouse (Ginger) and cousins Brittany and Meagan and their children Grayson and Bella, respectively.
If you knew Rebecca (Becca), you knew that she faced physical and medical challenges for much of her life. Yet despite those challenges, she always remained fun, upbeat, outgoing and in good spirits.
Rebecca was born on Father’s Day, June 20, 1982 in Jacksonville. She had a happy childhood, loved by all who came to know her. She was a Girl Scout and sold lots and lots of cookies every year, and she played Challenger Division Little League Baseball. She attended Love Grove Elementary School (where her grandmother, Connie Rogerson, was the guidance counselor) and then Sabal Palm Elementary, Landmark Middle and Sandalwood High School, graduating in 2003.
Rebecca always loved music and enthusiastically sang in the Choruses of Sandalwood High, Beach United Methodist Church and Pinecastle. After completion of school, Rebecca participated in Pinecastle’s workshops and day training programs. The annual highlight of her years from age 8 in 1990 until 2020 was always summer camp at Camp I Am Special in Fruit Cove, FL on the St Johns River. (She enjoyed camp even more than Disney World!) Her most fun camp activities were swimming and just hanging out and chatting with the camp counselors (buddies). At home, her most favorite activities were talking on the phone, enjoying Italian and Mexican cuisine, beading, watching movies and listening to country music.
Rebecca was admitted to Baptist Beaches Hospital on Friday, January 3rd and was later transferred to the Acute Care Unit where she remained until her passing. On her second day in the hospital, she said: “Dad, if anything happens to me, I want to have a funeral”. So, in keeping her final request, a celebration of her life will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11am at Spring Glen Methodist Church, 6007 Beach Blvd, in Jacksonville, FL, with lunch provided in the church Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. Interment of her ashes will be at a later date with immediate family. In lieu of flowers, Rebecca would have liked for donations to be made in her honor to Camp I Am Special, 235 Marywood Dr, Fruit Cove, FL 32259 and/or to Pinecastle, Inc., 4911 Spring Park Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
Her parents wish to thank with all our hearts the wonderful, caring and compassionate, medical staff at Baptist Beaches Hospital as well as the Wound Care Unit staff at Baptist Hospital downtown. May the peace of our Lord be with you.
