Ree Crosby Unterspan, age 72, went home to Jesus on June 8, 2025, after an extended illness. She was a devoted mother, loving grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend. Anyone who knew Ree was touched by her generosity, willingness to help anyone she could, and enthusiasm for life.
Ree was born on July 6, 1952, in Alma, Georgia to Willie Otis and Claudine Aldridge Crosby. She was raised in Baxley, GA and Alma, GA. She graduated from Bacon County High School, South Georgia State College, and the University of West Florida with a B.A. in Theatre Arts and English. She married John Alan Unterspan on July 19, 1975, and resided in Reston, VA, where her daughter Leigh was born in 1977. In 1979, they moved to Jacksonville.
After many years of volunteer work for the Museum of Science and History and The Bolles School, she was employed by The Bolles School in the Advancement Office for several years. After her retirement, she faithfully volunteered at Lakewood Church of Jacksonville in multiple capacities, teaching Sunday School classes and bible studies.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughter, Leigh Tuell (Jon); grandson Jake Tuell; faithful sister Karolyn McKoy (Jim); niece Deena M. Taylor (Michael) and nephew James M. McKoy, Jr. and loving cousins, great-nephews, great-nieces and a great-great-niece.
Ree loved two things most in life: her family and serving the Lord through her church. Throughout her illness, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with everyone who came into contact with her. She now rests in the arms of the Savior, rejoicing in the presence of the Almighty.
Her life will be celebrated Saturday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Lakewood Church of Jacksonville, where we will gather to honor her memory and rejoice in the promise of everlasting life. A reception will follow. A private family burial will be at Miles Cemetery, Appling County, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Ree may be made to Lakewood Church of Jacksonville, 6133 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32217.
