

Enquist, Reverend Walter Robert, went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2014. He was born in Hartford, Connecticut on July 16, 1942 to his parents, the late John Arthur Enquist and Lilly Johannson Enquist. He was one of three children. Beloved husband of Nadira Somai Enquist for 33 years. Loving father of Theodore Teddy, Matthew and Timothy. Brother of the late Arthur O. Enquist and of Ingrid L. Enquist and her son Robert. His legacy will live on in the lives that he touched through his ministry and love in his relatives in Sweden and the United States, the Somais, Latchmans, Arnolds, Abdool, Hemraj, Bowler, Hendricks and his many friends. A humble servant of the Lord, Pastor Enquist was loved by all: his parishioners, colleagues, friends, family, brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, nieces, and nephews. After graduating from Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey in 1964, he went on to The Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and completed his Bachelor of Divinity in May 1967.
Pastor Enquist was ordained as a minister and was committed to the service of the Lord until his passing. He was devoted to the Lord. He served at St. Jakobus (St. James) Church at Third and Columbia, Philadelphia, PA, then was called to serve at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 741 East 219th Street, Bronx, NY from May 1, 1976 to June 1998. He then served at Christ Messiah Church, 7576 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL from June 1998 until his passing.
He was an avid reader, teacher, and gardener, and enjoyed cooking. He loved to travel and spend time with his family and friends.
A viewing will take place at the Hardage-Giddens Hendricks Chapel on Friday, August 22, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Calling hours will be held from 11:00am to 12:00pm at the church. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 12:00 pm noon at Christ Messiah Church, 7576 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL, officiated by Reverend Hyacinth Johnson, followed by interment at the Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the Enquist family requests memorial contributions be made to Christ Messiah Church, 7576 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.
