I worked at Sonic with Richard for almost 1.5 years. Richard was my favorite manager and I was lucky to call him my friend too. I loved his goofy personality, and we made so many memories and jokes in the time I knew him. He really made my first ever job super fun. From being a teenager with lots of anxiety going into my first job, Richard was always there to help. Having Richard there always provided a constant at work. Even going through 3 GMs in the time I’ve worked there, Richard was always the goofy and smiling familiar face. One of my favorite things is that we had a sort of “call and response.” He would sing “Richie” ad I would then sing back “oh Richie” and he would end it by saying “poo”. The first time I ever did it he thought it was the funniest thing in the world and wouldn’t stop singing it for weeks. One time at work, I had the worst headache ever, and I was sitting on the floor with my hands over my eyes. Richard saw that I was in pain, and told me to go home and rest. He was so selfless and would give himself more work if it meant that he helped others along the way. He really was an amazing role model for every teenager working at Sonic. He was the hardest worker, and worked so many nights short-staffed and with unnecessarily angry customers, yet he’d still get up the next day and do his best. I’m so grateful that Richard was part of my life, and I’m glad he thought of me as “the funniest kid he’s ever met”. I’m going to miss his big hugs, belly bumps, and goofy jokes. I love and miss you so much Richie.

I had the pleasure of working with Richard at Sonic for a few years! One thing about him is that he was ALWAYS happy, always smiling, and always trying to make everyone laugh. I’m so sorry to hear about his passing and wish his family and all of his friends healing. Sending a special love to all our Sonic friends.

You don’t meet many people like Richard in your life. Everyone he worked with will tell you how easily he made people feel welcome and how much he enjoyed making people laugh. He was a selfless man who went out of his way to help others and always wanted to put a smile on your face. He truly cared about those around him and made work feel like home for so many.

You made a large impact on everyone who was lucky enough to know you and created so many good memories. You are loved and missed by many.

I was lucky to work with Richard at Sonic for several years. Richard was never in a bad mood-and that's saying something since he had to deal with a lot of teenagers! Sonic could be a chaotic place but Richard made it special and fun. He was a dear coworker and friend to many and will be dearly missed. He was an ordinary person with an ordinary job but his genuine kindness, humor, and friendship made him a little bit extraordinary.

It wont be the same without him. It simply wont. He was there for countless memories, moments, and friendships that grew and solidified at the sonic lot. His impact on the community is one that i really can't put into words. His patience, tolerance, and compassion for everyone at sonic, employees and customers alike, created something that reached beyond a fast food joint. He turned any old intersection into a place where every st johns county teen knew they would be safe to have fun, socialize, and laugh. Richard wasn't just a manager, he was a part of something amazing. He was the reason we had a place to go every Friday after a long week, the reason sonic quickly became the primary place to chill. Richard, all i can say is thank you. Though i didn't know you personally, you made an unforgettable impact on all of our lives. You wont be forgotten, your name wont be forgotten, and i thank you for making that simple intersection a keystone part of my Highschool life. Thank you for the bandaids, thank you for the memories, and know that you meant more to us than we could ever show.

Richard was one of my favorite people. When I started my first job he made sure that I was always laughing no matter how hard that day or night had been. His joy was infectious. Even after I quit I still came to sonic just to see him and my other old coworkers. His dedication to the people around him was amazing and I know that he will be dearly missed. My deep condolences to his family. Love you Richard.

I worked with Richard for a year and he always told me I was pretty and he had a crush on me. He would be the life of the party at work he always made sure everyone was ok before his own. He would come and help us out at the drop of a hat. Richard u will be missed by everyone at sonic.

Richard helped make an otherwise forgettable first job into an incredibly fun experience that I will never forget. His kindness and humor were loved by everyone around him, employees and customers alike. Sonic, and the community as a whole, will always remember the positive energy Richard brought with him to every day. I can’t wait to one day share all the wonderful memories he was a part of with my kids before they start their own first jobs.

Richard left an unforgettable mark in the life of everyone who knew him. He made an ordinary, run-of-the-mill job into something unique with his quirkiness and sense of fun. No matter how much he had to put up with at the end of the day he still had a smile and a joke. Beneath that, he had a deeply affectionate nature, great gratitude, and remarkable generosity. I am proud to have called him a friend and will keep him and his family in my prayers and in my memory as I know many others will.
