Born May 8, 1944, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the eldest of three siblings, she leaves behind her brother Billy Darty. Rita grew up as a kind and intelligent young lady well beyond her years.
Rita married Lewis Patterson on August 24, 1963, and together they spent nearly 63 years building a life of love, family, friendship, and fun. They raised each other as a couple, enjoying every minute life had to offer, while also raising two children, Phillip and Laura, who were the pride and joy of her life.
She was a proud and cherished grandmother to four grandchildren; Kristin Swanson, Charles Alder, Demetra Patterson, and Iliana Patterson, each of whom brought immense happiness to her life. Her love, encouragement, and gentle wisdom will remain with them always.
To those who knew her best, she will be remembered most for the way she cared for others. She had an endless curiosity about the world, reading thousands of books over the course of her life and never losing her love of learning. Rita was a passionate supporter of the Florida Gators, she enthusiastically cheered on her team and enjoyed sharing that enthusiasm with those around her. She treasured lifelong friendships, many of which began in childhood, and loved traveling with those dear friends as they created memories together.
She never forgot a birthday, an anniversary, or an important milestone. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel remembered and cherished, whether through a thoughtful card, a phone call, or simply taking the time to let them know they were on her mind. When someone needed encouragement or a helping hand, she was often one of the first to offer it.
Above all, she chose to see the good in people and in life. Her optimism was genuine, her laughter was contagious, and her kindness was effortless. She found joy in everyday moments and believed life was meant to be lived with gratitude, hope, and happiness.
While her family mourns her loss, they are grateful for the years of love, laughter, guidance, and happy memories she gave them. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Rita will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed, and very dear."
