

Robert William Duguid passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. He was 73 years old and born in Jacksonville, Florida February 23, 1939. As an adolescent he attended Southside Grammar #7. As a teenager he went to Landon High School and played drums in the band. After graduating in 1956 he continued his education at Jacksonville Junior College later know as Jacksonville University. Mr. Duguid graduated in 1960 with a B.A. in psychology and sociology. He then taught 4th grade at Sherwood Forest Elementary.
Sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church he received financial aid from the Florida Synod to attend Lutheran Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina. He interned at Grace Lutheran Church in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. During his senior year he allied for Chaplaincy in the US Army. He graduated from seminary in 1966 with a Master of Divinity. He was ordained by the Bishop at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Daytona Beach. He then served as Pastor of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Ocala, Florida Home of Silver Springs. In 1968 he was called to active duty and attended Chaplin school in Ft. Hamilton, NY. His first post was Ft. Gordon, Georgia in 1969 he received orders to Chu Lai, Vietnam where he served as Battalion Chaplin for the 1st of the 6th infantry, commanded by LTC. Norman Schwarskoph III.
After Vietnam he was sent to Germany were he was Chaplin of Mannheim, Stockade for a year and a half, then later as Post Chaplin at Vilsech, Germany. In 1974 he was caught in the RIF (Reduction in Force) out processed at Ft. Pix, NJ and returned to Jacksonville. He was then called to St. James Lutheran Church Northside, where he served for six years. In 1980 he resigned for personal reasons and entered secular employment.
He became a striper at Hobelman Port Services, Blount Island (Nissan). In 1985 the contract was taken over by distribution and auto service Nissan and Mr. Duguid continued to work for 17 years then retired in 2001.
Still in good health he became a security officer for Yarbrough Security. He was assigned to Beau Rivage Condominiums on St. Johns Avenue supervised by Col. Gean Fowler.
He is survived by his sons Michael Duguid and wife Laure; Christopher Duguid; Patrick Duguid and wife Michelle; daughter Jessica Jones and husband William; grandchildren Aidan and Caleb Jones; Tina and Michael Duguid; great-grandchild Ashton Duguid.
Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, March 16, 2012. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 17, 2012 all located at Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery.
