

Robert Earl Garmon, Jr. passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022 in Gainesville, Florida. Formerly of Jacksonville, he was a graduate of Englewood High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Florida National Guard. He was employed by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department from November of 1969 to December of 2004, achieving the rank of District Chief. After retirement he became an adjunct instructor for the Florida State College at Jacksonville. He worked briefly (1 year) for the Florida State Fire College in Ocala then returned to FSCJ to finish out 50 years of service to and with firemen.
He professed faith in Christ and became a member of Southside Estates Baptist Church (Jacksonville) until relocating to Lake Butler in 2001. He then joined Madison Street Baptist Church in Starke and has served Jesus there for the past 20 plus years. He sang in the choir, traveled on Mission trips, and served on the kitchen team as well as various committees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Earl Garmon, Sr. and Ruth Scott Graves; and brother Eddie (Willard Edwin Graves III). He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter Tracy Lynn Garmon; and sons Cory Garmon (wife Wanda) and Michael Garmon (fiancé Destiny Wilson). He is also survived by granddaughters Ressa Penland, Naomi Penland, Cynthia Penland and Emerson Garmon; grandsons Wesley (Bob) Cowart and Brodie Garmon; brother Jeff Garmon (wife Robin); niece Erin Scott (Ralph); nephew Joshua Garmon; and numerous extended family members.
