Robert D. "Bob" Shields, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Washington, D.C. on October 3, 1954, the son of Paul and Virginia Shields. In 1972 the family moved to Jacksonville from Chicago and one year later Copytronics Information Systems was founded. During college breaks, Bob would work at the family business and after graduating with a business degree from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, Bob became a sales representative, was promoted to sales manager, then general sales manager and President in 1998.
Under Bob’s leadership, Copytronics grew as a leading provider of document imaging and management solutions with multiple Florida operations. Nationally respected by his peers, Bob served as President of the Copier Dealers Association. As a member of the Gator Bowl Association, he successfully secured Konica Minolta as title sponsor of the Gator Bowl for a three year period. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bob was also an active member of the community as a Trustee of River Garden Home for the Aged, Brooks Health Systems, The March of Dimes and Junior Achievement where he was Past President. Bob’s greatest joy was time spent with his family. He was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather who will always be loved and missed. In addition to his family and community, Bob gave of himself to scores of friends. To be a friend of the affectionately nicknamed “Daddy Bob” is a memory many will cherish. He was a lifelong Catholic, strong in his faith and in God’s plan for him. His sister, Lori, and father, Paul, predeceased him. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Denda; sons, Kevin (Tara), David (Julie), Adam (Jessica), Brian(Rebecca) and Patrick; mother, Virginia; brother, Gary (Kathy); sister, Paula; beloved grandchildren, Bailey, Leighton, Mercer, Linkoln, and Wyatt; and leaves to mourn, Aunt Irene and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 12th from 6:30 – 8:30pm at San Jose Catholic Church, located at 3619 Toledo Road, Jacksonville. A memorial mass to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 10:00am on Thursday February 13th at San Jose Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to River Garden Home for the Aged, 11401 Old St. Augustine Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32258.
