

Robert Freeman Wingo CDR., USN, ret., of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on December 21, 2014 at the age of 91. He was born on October 7, 1923, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He lived and worked on the family farm until joining the United States Navy in April, 1945. He served 30 years in the Navy and retired with the rank of Commander on June 1, 1975. After retirement he graduated with honors from the University of North Florida with a degree in accounting. He spent his retirement years building a barn and working on his land in Jacksonville.
Mr. Wingo was preceded in death by his son, Bruce, in 1968. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Geneva. He is also survived by his daughters, Wanda (Mel) Radowitz, Connie (Robert) Thome, Bonnie O’Brien, and his 6 granddaughters, Rebecca, Meredith, Allison, Jessica, Linda and Emma Kate. He welcomed his first great-grandchild, William, in November.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on December 30, 2014 in the chapel of Hardage Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, with pastor and longtime friend Dr. Dan Davis officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m., with full military honors, at the National Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida.
