
Rodney Gene Walker, age 78, passed away at his home on November 5th, 2021. Rodney was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Florida. During his early years, Rodney attended church at Murray Hill Baptist. He was a proud graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and carried on his family’s tradition of military service by joining the United States Army. Rodney’s army duty included an overseas tour in Germany. After he completed his military service, Rodney met Marianne, his wife of more than 49 years. Rodney took care of Marianne and their son George by working as a machinist for almost 40 years. During the final 15 years of his life, he worked part-time at the Hagen Ace Hardware Store in Mandarin.
When Rodney allowed himself time for relaxation, he enjoyed a wide range of activities including scuba diving, fishing, hunting, camping, and riding his motorcycle. In addition, he was an avid bowler and a member of the Four Wheel Drive Posse, a voluntary auxiliary unit of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Rodney’s surviving family members include his nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, younger brother (Thomas), and his son (George). Rodney was preceded in death by his wife Marianna, brother (Malcom), Malcom’s son (Jimbo), and sisters Lana and Glenda.
The committal service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 1:30 PM in Jacksonville National Cemetery. 4083 Lannie Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32218.
