Son of Francis & Hazel Hehn, he was born & raised in Flint, MI where he met his wife of 57 years, Annabelle Lee Attridge.
Dr. Hehn earned his D.D.S. degree at Northwestern University and completed his surgical residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
Roger and Lee moved to Jacksonville in 1947 to establish his practice. He was called to active duty in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and returned to Jacksonville to grow his practice in oral & maxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Hehn served the Jacksonville community at the Duval Medical Center (later University Medical Center), Brewster Hospital, St. Vincent’s Hospital and, over the passing years, every hospital and medical center in the Greater Jacksonville area.
During the years of operating a local practice and lovingly raising a family, Roger served in local, state and national organizations promoting high quality medical and dental care for all people.
Never looking for fame or accolades, Dr. Hehn used the gifts of talent, skill, and a loving soul to humbly serve God and heal. He endeavored to pass on his passion through mentoring and teaching surgery residents in training. Roger enjoyed his time here as few could! He possessed a zeal for everything he did professionally, spiritually, and recreationally with family, patients and friends.
Roger knew no strangers. All were welcome in his heart.
He has joined his son James Frances Hehn, wife Lee, and sister Marjorie Tanner. Dr. Hehn is survived by son, Thomas G. Hehn and wife, Sharon of Edgewood, KY; daughter, Deborah Hehn of St. Augustine, FL; grandson, Santos Magan-Hehn, step-grandson, Mark Iussig , wife, Cara and 3 great grandchildren, Sparta, NJ. and many nieces and nephews.
His life will be celebrated at a memorial service at 2pm Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Riverside Presbyterian Church 849 Park St. in Jacksonville. The Rev. Dr. Stephen Goyer and the Rev. David C. Allert officiating.
Donations may be made in memory of Dr. Hehn and the glory of God to The Alzheimer’s Association, The James Hehn Memorial Endowment Foundation, or the outreach missions of Riverside Presbyterian Church or Christ the King Anglican Church, St. Augustine.
