Ronnie Dorminey passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023, after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Renee; his daughters Winnie (Alan) and Maddison (Matt); and his grandchildren Clara, Davis, Graham, and Caden (soon arriving).
Ronnie was born in Douglas, Georgia, on April 15, 1950, to Chester and Clara Mae Dorminey. He was an active member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. Ronnie loved the Lord, his family, and his friends.
Ronnie worked in several fields during his life. He ran the Hi-Way Market with his family, drove semis, and was the warehouse manager at Builders First Source. After retirement, he did what he genuinely loved, opening Bootleggin’ BBQ.
Ronnie loved attending his grandkids’ activities, spending time at Kingsley Lake, collecting classic cars, and following his favorite players on the golf course.
As we know, here on earth we have some long days and dark nights. Ronnie has certainly lived those difficult times. But the new home that Ronnie Dorminey knows now has “no more night, no more pain, no more tears, never crying again.” He has fought the good fight, he has finished the course, he has kept the faith. Well done, thou good and faithful servant.
So many people loved Ronnie. What a wonderful life he lived—loving, caring, and sharing his God-given talents! To his childhood friends, Ronnie was known as “Hog.” To some, he was “Coach.” To nine siblings, he was “brother.” To some, he was Ronnie. To many, he was the best ‘barbequer’ ever. To Renee, he was “husband.” To Winnie and Maddison, he was “Dad.” To Alan and Matt, he was “Mr. Dorminey.” To Clara, he was “Papa.” To Davis, “Poppy.” To Graham, “Pops.” And in a few weeks, Caden will hear all the stories of how much Pops loved him, too.
Thank you to everyone who has traveled this journey with us. We could not have done this without God, family, and friends.
Arrangements are being provided by Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn. A fellowship and reception will be held Friday, August 4 from 6-8pm. Homegoing service will be held Saturday, August 5 at 10am. Both events will be held at Westside Baptist Church, 7775 Herlong Road, Jacksonville, FL 32210.
