On January 1, 1941, Rose Mary Bateh was born to Jamileh Bateh Jubran and Assad Salem Jubran in Ramallah, Palestine. Her stories of the old country touched so many as she was so proud to have been born in the Holy Land. As a woman of strong convictions and faith - a devout Orthodox Christian - she never wavered even through the most trying of times.
As a young woman she immigrated to the United States from Ramallah, Palestine and quickly adapted to her new life. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1960 and soon after married the love of her life, Mufeed Elias "Joseph" Bateh. Four wonderful children followed and a successful career in entrepreneurship. Through dedication and hard work, she achieved the "American dream" and was so excited to become an American citizen. She perfectly merged her two worlds - Palestinian heritage and life in America.
Our mom, "Mama Rose" as she was known by many, loved all things beautiful, and her soul matched that beauty. Her garden was impeccable, she was always so excited about the blooming camelias and the first harvest of figs each season. She loved to dance, Joseph's Pizza and the North Carolina mountains. She saw beauty in all of God's splendors and most of all each of her family members. She never met a person without leaving a mark on their heart and her legacy will live on.
Rose Mary Bateh was preceded in death by her husband, Mufeed Elias "Joseph" Bateh and her son, David Anthony Bateh, as well as her mother, Jamileh Bateh Jubran, her father, Assad Salem Jubran, and her brother, Hanna Jubran. She is survived by her daughters Suzanne Bateh (Spyros Syrmis), Sandra Bateh, and Sabrina Bateh Kuruvilla (Ron) as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ashley Lazo (Eric), Daniel Hanania (Rita), Patrick Hanania, Joseph Kuruvilla, Ileana Kuruvilla, Luca Kuruvilla, Jacob Lazo, and Sofia Lazo. Additionally, she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
