Roslyn Platock Horovitz, 90, passed away July 25, 2017 surrounded by her family whom she loved and adored. Roz was born in Savannah, Georgia on December 16, 1926. She spent most of her adult life in Jacksonville where she served as the family matriarch to her two children, four grandchildren, their spouses and nine great-grandchildren, all of who lived nearby. She also embraced her role as grandmother to extended family in California. Roz lovingly cared for her father, Max Platock, in his later years after the sudden loss of her mother, Ida and her younger brother, Alan.
A lover of culture, she was ahead of her time and always in step with the latest in fashion, literature, music and the arts. Her grandchildren deferred to her judgment in all matters of taste and décor. Living by her adage, “It’s not how you fell, but how you look”. Roz battled courageously through a series of illnesses, always determined to live for the next family celebration. She took pride in having seen all of her children and grandchildren married to spouses with whom she approved and loved. Every member of the family knew where they stood with Grammy Roz and all sought her approval. She was a lifelong member of the Jacksonville Jewish Center.
She is survived by her husband, Elliott; daughter, Judy (Dr. Edward) Mizrahi; son, Bruce (Edith) Horovitz; brother, Gerald (Ellen) Platock, Rachel (Dr. Craig) Morgenthal, Sam (Heather) Horovitz, Dr. Max (Mindy) Horovitz; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Max, Zach, Jacob, Joseph, Daniel, Belle, Henry and Eliana; and many nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to her caregivers.
