Caroline,

It is hard to know where to start, but I hope these few memories will be a bit of comfort to you.

I was secretary at First Baptist Callahan when Sam accepted the call as our Pastor, so I had the privilege of working with him.  During those years my family went through some very difficult times – my husband's lengthy illness, many hospitalizations, and subsequent death.  Sam was always there when we needed a Pastor, and truly taught me the true meaning of that word.  

Our families became very close friends also during those years and my children and I have many fond memories of our times together.  We became “honorary” aunt and uncle to Mary, David and Melissa, and I still love to hear them call “Aunt Ivy”!  Melissa was very young and her favorite thing to do was come over to the office, get the junk mail and go home and play “mail”.  

Sam was not a “handy man” but Nelvin, my husband, was so it was not unusual for Sam to call asking his help, or “how do I do this?”  I like to think that they learned from each other here – and are now walking those golden streets and worshiping our Savior together!  When Nelvin was so weak and in such pain, Sam was always encouraging and prayed many prayers with us.  Caroline, you were always there to help me, at times, sitting with Nelvin, (along with Melissa to keep him entertained!) so that I could work to support the family. 
 
We made several trips together, and always had a great time of fellowship – be it camping, visiting Sam's parents, Disney World, wherever we were.   Sam, Caroline and the children will always have a special place in my heart, and he will never be forgotten.

If there is any thing I can do, I will be there, and I will look forward to our "girls day out". God bless you.

Over 14 years ago I was going through a really rough time and Mr. Lee told me to always pray to God and ask for Him to "Take control of my heart, mind, body, and soul." I have said those words in my prayers just about every day for the past 14 years and my life has gotten much better. Also, about 12 years ago, I had knee surgery (ACL replacement). As I was leaving the hospital and the glass doors were opening, Mr. Lee was coming in the hospital to pray to the kids. This particular three second moment was very profound to me because it was as though he was an angel coming thru the brights lights as the doors were opening. And three years ago (Mike's softball tournament-God bless you Mike) I reminded Mr. Lee about the prayer he told me back in August 1997; 
Me: "Lord please take control"...[and Mr. Lee finished the rest of my prayer!]...Mr. Lee: "...of my heart, mind, body, and soul." Now I see where David gets his sharp mind! I thanked Mr. Lee that day because I truly believe those words brought happiness in my life. I really believe that! Mr. Lee that prayer will be in my family forever, just like you will be in my heart forever. Thank you so much. Love, Tom, Traci, and Luke Posse

We do not mourn a death, but celebrate a life! Sam won the victory and is celebrating with the angels in heaven. Sam is not dead, he is just beginning to live! Sam was blessed by God. He loved the Lord and loved with God's love. Sam was a good man, who did many good things for many people. He was filled with zeal and spiritual fervor. He rejoiced with those who rejoiced and mourned with those who mourned. He devoted his life to doing good. His love was the sincere love of God. (Rom.12: 9-16,21) Sam also had a true spirit of service. He served the Lord with gladness and entered God's courts with thanksgiving. Why? He was following his Lord who said, "I came not to be served, but to serve". (I Peter 4:10-11) Sam had the gift of service and faithfully administered God's grace in many ways to many people, whether "Jew or Greek". Sam also had the gift of words. He loved to talk and would talk to anyone who would listen and some who would not listen. Sam knew what is in your heart comes through your mouth. He spoke many words, but his priority was to share the gospel. Rom.10:9-13. Sam spoke from his heart knowing sometimes people would not accept his words. He spoke anyway and many were saved because of his words. I feel sure Sam prayed on more than one ocassion, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer". Thank you, Sam, for a life lived well and thank you, God, for bringing him into the world to bless our lives. Help us bless others as Sam blessed us. "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is in me, bless His holy name".

May your memories of the wonderful times you shared with your loved one comfort you and your family, today and always.

Grandpa came to my ball games.  He gave me a lot of compliments. He loved me a lot. He gave me hugs every single time I saw him. I loved him a lot. We some times played catch. He would tell me stories about when he was a kid on his farm in Georgia.  I will miss him a lot.

We were shocked and saddened by the loss of Sam. You and yours are in our prayers. May the peace of God flood your hearts in the days to come.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  Sam was a wonderful joyful man with such a great sense of humor.  We were honored to have him marry our daughter and to be apart of our lives. We are so sorry to hear about Sam.  Larry asks about you at the beginning of every school year when he realizes we have no crossing guard again.  You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.  May God give you all peace knowing that he is with our Lord and Savior.

Caroline,  Georgia and I were sad to learn of your loss.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Sam had many accomplishments in his life, but his finest is the wonderful family that he and Caroline have raised.

My fondest memories of Sammy are from our days at Mercer.  Never have I seen a more gregarious person, nor one more generous with transportation for friends"on foot!" Optimism was in abundance in his character.  God bless all of you in your loss and give you what you need for the days ahead.
