Sandra Anglin Davis, 80, of Jacksonville, Florida died surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 7. She was married to the love of her life, James Blanton Davis for 58 years, until his passing in March 2021.
Sandra was born November 18, 1944 in Porterdale, Georgia (Newton County). She was the daughter of the late William Alonzo Anglin and Bernice Lee Thomas Anglin. Raised in Athens, Georgia, she was a graduate of Athens High School Class of 1962. In her teens, she was an active member of West End Baptist Church.
Following her marriage in 1963, Sandra worked for Boeing in Decatur, Alabama, and later returned to Athens to work for an architectural firm. She held several administrative positions before joining her husband in opening a specialty accounts payable auditing firm known as JB Davis Associates in 1980. After her children were grown, she finally achieved her longtime dream of working in the medical field. A graduate of Gaston College in Gastonia, North Carolina, she obtained her State of North Carolina Emergency Medical Technical (EMT) Certification in 1994 followed by her EMT – Paramedic Certification. She worked as an EMT and later as a Paramedic for Ranlo Rescue Squad in Ranlo-Gastonia, North Carolina before retiring as a Captain in 2001. She was awarded Ranlo Fire & Rescue “Office of the Year” in 1998 and 1999. Sandra was also the Gaston County and North Carolina Squad Association “EMS Instructor of the Year” in 1999.
In her spare time, Sandra was a voracious reader of novels, history, and the daily newspaper. She enjoyed needle point, cooking, and had many successful gardens including her prized roses. She loved music and had a lovely singing voice. Sandra was a lifelong fan of University of Georgia football. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren. She rarely missed an event, showing up for band concerts, flag football games, soccer games, school plays, school awards, Boy Scouts, graduations, proms, and many other events. Sandra was happiest when at least one of her grandbabies was nearby. She will be remembered most for her nurturing care of her family including her mother and husband before their passing as well as her love of large family celebrations for holidays and birthdays.
