OBITUARY

Sarah King Friedman

January 4, 1920November 3, 2019

Mrs. Sarah King Friedman passed away on November 3, 2019 in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL after a long illness. She is survived by her children: Kenneth A. Friedman, Jr. (Kimberly) of Jacksonville, Henry Daniel Friedman of St. Augustine, and Margaret Friedman Richter (Scott) of Colleyville, TX; grandchildren: Colyer Friedman, Emmeline Friedman, Matthew Friedman, Eric Richter, and Amy Richter. She is also survived by a niece; Judy Johnson (Ray) of St. Augustine, and two grandnieces – Sally Johnson Huster (Jim) and Katie Johnson Talbert (Jay), and a cousin – Nancy Angel Harris. She was the widow of the late Kenneth A. Friedman and was also predeceased by two sisters – Evelyn King Dyson and Emma L. King.

Mrs. Friedman was born on January 4, 1920 in Tampa to the late Leola M. and Henry Daniel King. The family moved to Jacksonville early in Sarah’s life and she attended Jacksonville schools, with Sarah graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1938. She went on to graduate from the Florida State College for Women (now FSU) in 1942. She worked several years for The Associates before marrying Mr. Friedman in 1951 and starting their family. Sarah was an active volunteer in her children’s’ schools as they were growing up, most notably PTA organizations. She was active in St. Marks Episcopal Church, and served several years as secretary of the vestry. She was also a member of the Della Robbia Circle of the Jacksonville Garden Club, the Jacksonville Women’s Club, and was an Honorary Life member of the Florida Yacht Club.

Sarah was a longtime resident of Challen Avenue until 2009 and has resided at Vicar’s Landing in Ponte Vedra for the last ten years. She enjoyed the company of many friends and many games of bridge. She also enjoyed trips to the North Carolina mountains and the family’s weekend retreat on Colee Cove.

Her memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida.
