Shaun was born in Jacksonville, FL, November 10, 1982. He attended Childrens Small World, Greenfield Elementary School, Southside Middle School, Englewood High School, and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of North Florida. He worked at Jacksonville Transportation Authority and Jacksonville Electric Authority through the Reynolds, Smith, & Hills consulting firm. He worked facilities maintenance at YMCA Camp Immokalee in Keystone Heights, FL and Madison Property Management Solutions in Jacksonville.
Shaun was a 32nd Degree Master Mason, Officer as Expert, with the Free and Accepted Masons, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite in the Valley of Jacksonville, Orient of Florida, a founding member of Knights of Light, and a Junior Warden for Duval Lodge #159.
Shaun enjoyed being with people and helping people and was a regular contributor to several charities. Around age 9 – 12, he played baseball on a youth team. His mind was like a sponge for many things, like the Knights Templar and World War histories, the space program, and modern technologies. His musical likes were very broad. He was very adept at using the internet as a tool. He enjoyed watching sports & sports news; he was a former season ticket holder of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He liked attending classic car shows with his dad. He played trivia weekly on an informal restaurant trivia team with his parents, friends, and relatives.
Shaun is survived by his parents, Robert Byron DeLong, Jr. and Dorita Girvin DeLong, of Jacksonville, brother Robert Byron DeLong III of Jacksonville, several aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins. We are so grateful to the Oncologists and staffs at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center (Dr. Neki & colleagues) and, later, the Mayo Clinic (Dr. Mody & colleagues) for their expertise and compassion in their attempts to deliver Shaun a “clean bill of health”.
