She graduated from Glenrock High School, then attended Union College. She met her husband Barry while working at a local market in New Jersey. They wed soon after meeting and were married for 56 years.
Their first daughter, Edith, was born in Cape Canaveral, Florida, and she was named after Barry’s Mom. A year later they moved to Northern Virginia. More time passed and they were blessed with their second daughter Johanna, named after Sunny’s Uncle Joe. Their family grew to include their dog Cuddles, Blackie (a large black dog), and a cat named Socks.
She loved the culture of the 1960's with a particular love of Elvis Presley, the Pontiacs and Chevrolets with their long, elegant fins. She also loved Johnny Mathis, The Beach Boys, Country Music, Country line dancing, jigsaw puzzles and all kinds of seafood, especially Maryland Crabs.
She shared her love of art, culture, and music with her daughters. She was a volunteer usher at Wolf Trap Performing Center in Virginia and brought her daughters starting a young age to see operas, ballets, and many performers. Her daughters have fond childhood memories of exploring the Smithsonian Museums, seeing art, gemstones to dinosaurs as well as many cultural festivals around Washington DC area. If there was live music and art, she would be there dancing and joining in.
She worked as a receptionist for a new housing development where they lived in Virginia and then became a realtor. As a realtor, she was able to share her passion of different styles of homes and interior design.
After both daughters graduated from college and moved away, she and Barry moved to sunny Jacksonville, Florida near Neptune Beach. They built their dream home in 2003, with pale yellow interiors, fruit trees in a backyard that butt against a lake with beautiful birds.
They loved Neptune Beach with its cute shops, music and art festivals and of course eating shrimp at Sliders Restaurant or the amazing lump crab cakes at Barbara Jeans in Ponte Vedra. They visited places like Jekyll Island and enjoyed shows at the Alhambra Theatre & Dining. She also had many friends at the Senior Center and embraced her Jewish faith at the Chabad.
Barry passed away in 2020. She leaves her daughters, Edie and Johanna and Johanna's husband Frank Markowski, and her two sisters, Harriette Kagel of Columbus, Ohio and Beverly Reifman of Cambridge, Massachusetts, as well as her four nieces, two nephews, four step-grandsons and her Cousins Sherry Zaro and Sheila Kovar of New Jersey.
