Shirley Ann Requet, 88, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away January 13, 2017, following a short stay at the Community Hospice of NE Florida Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring on Sunbeam Road. Shirley, the daughter of John T. and Elva E. Dickson of Quincy, Illinois was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Requet, and her sister, Barbara J. Schelen, of Quincy Illinois. She is survived by her two sons, Kevin Requet (Carol) and Bradley Requet, both of Jacksonville, Florida; two grandchildren, Clayton Requet (Jessica) and Kyle Requet, and two great- grandchildren, Leighton and Brilynn Requet.
Shirley was born in Quincy, Illinois and moved to Jacksonville Florida in 1954 with her husband Bill. She did office work for a few years prior to having children and then became a devoted mother and housewife. Shirley loved music and her passion was playing the piano. She learned to play at an early age and was taught by her grandmother, Maude Wells Dickson, who was a music teacher. Shirley was gifted and played by ear. She enjoyed entertaining and having get-togethers with her friends and family during the holidays and playing fun card games and singing.
Shirley’s focus in life was on God, family, the church and serving others. She was a devout Christian and a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for 60 years. She was best known for being a greeter. She reached out to prospective members and made them feel welcome, encouraging them to become a member of the St. Marks family. She also loved visiting shut-ins and participating in church groups and Bible studies. She served the Lord daily through His word and deed. Mimaw, as she was affectionately known by the family, has influenced our lives forever and we have been immeasurably blessed by her life. Her gift was service and this was reflected in her daily life’s duties and outside commitments. She was sweet and kind and always cared more about her fellow man than she did about herself.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 28, 2017 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church at 3967 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32207 with Pastor Pat Bell, presiding. We thank the Lord for all the years He gave our family with her. It is going to be a slow healing process to fill this void in our hearts. She was a joy to have around. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Community Hospice Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring on Sunbeam Rd. or St. Mark’s Lutheran Church at 3976 Hendricks Ave. Jacksonville, FL 32207.
Arrangements under the direction of Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, Jacksonville, FL.
