Shirley “Sherry” Comstock Strange passed away at Community Hospice Hadlow Center for Caring on March 13, 2018. She was born on June 7, 1926 in Indian Head, MD, the daughter of Peter Emory and Ruth Milstead Comstock.
She retired from the United States General Services Administration in Washington, D.C. in 1974, where she was a Senior Contracting Officer.
Anyone who knew Sherry knew that she was an accomplished parliamentarian and held all levels of elected officials responsible should they fail to follow Robert’s Rules of Order to the letter. She served as the Region Five Governor from 1984-1986 and was voted Parliamentarian of the Year in 2005 by the American Institute of Parliamentarians (AIP), among numerous other honors and publications in the field. She was also a three term President of First Coast Parliamentarians, Chapter 30, 1982-84, 1987-89 and 1995-96 and held numerous leadership positions with the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP) since 1981.
Sherry received a five-year appointment to the United States Constitution Bicentennial Commission of Jacksonville in 1976 and was the Chair of the Speakers Bureau.
She was also a devoted cat lover and managed to take in nearly every stray cat that ever caught her eye, including the occasional racoon or opossum.
Sherry attended Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) in Quincy, Massachusetts and was of the Nazarene faith.
She is survived by three devoted daughters, Cheryl Strange Morgan (James), Rhonda Strange Murray and Lisa Strange Weatherby, grandchildren Lauren Langley (Bridgett), Erin Pagan, Rob Murray and Alexa Quaritius (Jack), great grandchildren Andrea Bridgett, Claudea Bridgett, Jackson Pagan and Ashley Pagan.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Claude B. Strange and brother Arthur Comstock.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd in Jacksonville, Florida. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and a reception onsite will follow. Honorary pallbearers will be Lauren Langley, Erin Pagan, Rob Murray, Alexa Quaritius, Paul Strange, and Pat Shugart. Arrangements are under the care of Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn, 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207.
