Shukry Salim Bateh (Batch)

Shukry Salim Bateh, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2010 at the age of 74. Shukry was born May 23,1935 in Ramallah, Palestine, to Salim Z. and Niemeh Bateh. He married his beloved wife, Suad, in September of 1953 and immigrated to the United States shortly thereafter. He quickly adopted a passion for his new homeland and was proud to be an American. Determined to make it in America, Shukry’s genial and caring personality allowed him to succeed as a self-employed merchant salesman. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Fouad Bateh. Shukry is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Suad, son, Sammy Bateh (Jamana), daughters; Hilda Homan (Danny), Kim Dewan (Derek), Deena Bateh and Lorraine Claborn (Rick). He was proud of his six grandchildren: Ashley Byars(Tristan), Jessica Homan, Brittany Dewan, Allison Dewan, Lexie Claborn and Michael Bateh. He was also blessed with two great grandsons, Austin and Jackson Byars. In addition, Shukry is survived by brothers, Adel Bateh (Armalina), Said Bateh (Vera), sister in law Renee Bateh (the late Fouad Bateh) and sisters Nabeeha Shalley (the late William Shalley), Saleema Zarou (the late Salim Zarou), Julliet Butros (the late Sami Butros), Naiemeh Butros (the late Jad Butros), and Karima Bateh (Kamal Bateh). Shukry was a deeply loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He demonstrated true unconditional love to all his children, grandchildren and his many cousins, nieces and nephews, with whom he shared humor and laughter. He was a gifted chef and especially enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. A rosary and viewing will be held on Thursday, April 29 at 7 pm at San Jose Catholic Church, 3619 Toledo Road, Jacksonville, FL 32217. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 30 at 11 am, at San Jose Catholic Church. Burial services will be at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Boulevard.
