

Soonie Rogers, 91, of Jacksonville, FL passed away July 16th, 2020 of natural causes. She was born on August 11th, 1928 in a small town of Cheorwun-gun in Gangwon Province which is near the border of North and South Korea. During turbulent times at the beginning of the 20th Century, she witnessed the harsh realities of war first hand during the Japanese occupation of Korea and World War II. After the onset of the Korean conflict, she fled to seek refuge in Seoul Korea. It was there while working at The Chosen Hotel as a waitress she met her future spouse, Randall, a soldier in the United States Army. After marrying in Seoul, they left to start their new lives and family in America. One of Soonie’s proudest moments was when she became a naturalized citizen of the United States on April 30, 1982. Despite hardships of her earlier life, she found happiness as a devoted wife and mother of four boys, David L. Rogers and wife Margaret, Frederick C. Rogers and wife Susan, Thomas C. Rogers and wife Kellie, and Robert L. Rogers and wife Rene.
9 Grandchildren, 2 Step Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Step Great Grandchildren. Even in her 90's she never forgot a birthday.
Soonie was an avid gardener that always brightened up the landscape and neighborhood where she lived with beautiful flowers and shrubs. People constantly stopped to admire and complement her beautiful yard, which she took great pride in.
Soonie is rejoicing now in heaven with Jesus and getting to reunite with her husband who passed away in September of 1989. She certainly is loved and will be missed.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday July 31st at 11am. at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home
