Larry was the child of Stephen H. Farris and Mary E. Leslie who preceded him in death. Larry enlisted in the Navy on August 28, 1967 where he received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged on August 10, 1972. He previously worked for Bellsouth/AT&T and then retired from the Duval County School Board. Larry was a strong Christian man who served as a Deacon and Song Leader for the Dean Road Church of Christ. He later became a member of Christ Church where he was involved in the Kingdom Builders class. Larry loved to serve at nursing homes where he would sing and play guitar for the residents. He took great pride in his family! Larry loved his grandchildren and taught them to play guitar, cheered them on in their sports and extracurricular activities, and would always make them homemade ice cream. He loved to make people laugh, enjoyed hunting, target practice, and singing karaoke. Larry was always looking for a reason to get the family together!
Larry is survived by his wife Alice F. Farris of Jacksonville, FL; brothers W.J. Farris of Gulf Breeze, FL and Dean A. Farris of Tallahassee, FL; sons Stephen M. Farris and Mark A. Farris of St. Johns County, FL; grandchildren Davia R. Jewell of Jacksonville, FL; Leslie E. Farris of McDonough, GA; Christina R. Farris, Stephen W. Farris, Mackenzie Warringer, and Colton L. Farris of St. Johns County, FL; along with 2 great- grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family would like to acknowledge the care Larry received while at Baptist Medical Center South on Tower 4C and the ICU units.
