Randy was born on November 14, 1947, in Jacksonville, to Floyd Myers Houser, III, and Helen Ruth Houser(nee Widner). He was a lifelong resident of the city he loved. Like many Houser's before him, Randy attended Landon High School, where he played on the varsity football team. He graduated in the class of 1965 and soon after answered the call to serve his country. From 1968 to 1970, he served honorably in the United States Army and was stationed at a US Army base in Berlin, Germany.
In 1972, Randy married the love of his life, Linda, thus beginning a devoted partnership that spanned over five decades. Together they lovingly raised two sons, Ryan and Blake, with whom Randy always shared a deep bond. He was a dedicated father who cherished every moment spent with his boys as they grew up. His commitment to family extended into his later years as a loving grandfather to his four grandchildren. Known for his gentle nature and warm presence, Randy gave the grandchildren his very best.
Yet, another great pride and joy for Randy and Linda was their nationally known Letterhead Engraving business, the Wells & Drew Company. Forty-three years ago, in 1982, Randy and his father-in-law, Johnnie O. Wells, opened Wells Legal Supply, Inc. The company quickly grew, as they focused on delivering the highest quality engraved stationery to the top legal offices thru-out the Jacksonville area. In 1997, the company merged with H & W.B. Drew Company, forming the Wells & Drew Companies. Today, the company is still in the family, and managed daily by Randy and Linda's two sons, Ryan and Blake.
Randy’s love for sports was a defining part of his life. A loyal fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars since their inception, he and wife Linda held season tickets, along with other relatives and friends, for many years. They rarely missed a game. Just like his Houser Family Patriarchs, Randy had an enduring passion for University of Florida athletics and enjoyed watching Gator games on TV surrounded by very loudly cheering family and friends.
Randy and Linda shared the excitement of travel both across the USA and abroad. Lake George, NY, Albuquerque, NM, Lake Tahoe, CA, and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, were just some of the American stops. And, more recently a trip to historic sites in England, Wales, and Scotland.
Randy is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Linda Houser (nee' Wells); his sons Ryan (Katie) and Blake (Danielle); and four grandchildren: Ben, Everly, Wells, and Cleopatra. He is also survived by six siblings:
Floyd Houser, IV (Susan), Phillip Houser (Lu Ann), Jeanne Cohen (Ron), Rebecca Augustyniak (Edmund), Jeffrey Houser (Barbara), and Robert Houser(Kathryn). Randy is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, from both the Houser & Widner families.
Randy was preceded in death by his sweet and loving parents, Floyd Myers Houser III and Helen Ruth Houser (nee Widner).
If you knew Randy, you knew a very warm and sweet soul, who loved to smile and especially, laugh. He made all who came into his circle feel so special and so glad that they had gotten the chance to know him and feel his love. He was a confidant to all and a most special dear Brother and Son to his immediate Family.
Randy's life was marked by quiet strength, unwavering devotion to family, and a kind spirit that touched all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him and continue to inspire those whose lives he graced.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
