Born on November 24, 1925, in Zaragoza, Colombia, Susana was the youngest of five sisters. She later made the United States her home, carrying with her a deep connection to her Colombian roots and a life shaped by family, faith, and quiet strength. In November 2025, she joyfully celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family.
A devout Catholic throughout her life, Susana’s faith was a steady presence and source of comfort. She lived her beliefs through generosity, kindness, and an unwavering willingness to help others. Fluent in both Spanish and English, she moved easily between cultures and generations, serving as a bridge within her family, church and community.
Tiasu was known for her warmth, good humor, and open heart. She welcomed everyone as family and had a gift for making guests feel instantly at home. The matriarch of her family, her home was a gathering place for holidays, celebrations, and visits from loved ones traveling from near and far. Though she never married or had children of her own, she was a second grandmother to two generations of our family.
Her enduring love of travel led her to explore South America, Europe, and Asia, always returning with stories and carefully chosen souvenirs that reflected her thoughtfulness and joy in sharing experiences. Strong-willed and fiercely independent until the very end, Susana lived life fully and on her own terms.
She is survived by Antonio Ruiz Sheets, William Rubiano Sheets, Susana Rubiano Sheets Acevedo, Carmen Ruiz Sheets Zepeda, Allan Vargas Sheets, Kenneth Vargas Sheets, and 26 great-nieces and nephews.
Tiasu will be remembered for her presence, generous spirit, and the sense of togetherness she created throughout her life.
