

Sylvia Lindsey Skinner Singleton was born on December 30, 1937 in Jacksonville, FL to the proud parents of Alice M. Skinner and Charles B. Skinner. She grew up in Jacksonville, FL and attended Old Stanton High School. She was in the first graduating class of New Stanton High School 1954.
She was a graduate of Hampton University, class of 1958 with a Bachelor’s degree in Art.
In 1958, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Warner Emerson Singleton and this union was blessed with three children.
She began her career as an educator at Northwestern Senior High School. In 1962, her family moved to New Jersey where she became the first African-American personnel director for the state of New Jersey and at Woodbridge State School for special needs children.
After a fulfilling 33 years as an educator, she would retire in 1995 and returned to her hometown of Jacksonville, FL in 2000.
Sylvia always displayed characteristics of Christ by dedicating her life to family, servitude and community. Sylvia was always ready and willing to lend a hand along with her signature smile.
She was an active member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church since 2000; she loved her church and her church community. She was also an active member of several social clubs including: The Moles Social Club Inc., Flajax Club of Jacksonville Inc., and New Stanton High School class of 1954 reunion committee. She was also a board member of Durkeeville Historical Society, a member of Phi Delta Kappa Inc. of Somerset, New Jersey, an archousai of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity and a sweetheart of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
She was an avid Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Yankees, music and Pokeno fan.
Family meant everything to Sylvia. She was a dedicated and loving wife to her husband, Warner, for 63 years (Proverbs 18:22: “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord”). If you saw Warner, then you knew Sylvia wasn’t too far behind. Her two granddaughters, Malaika and Gabrielle, were the joys of her life.
On November 24, 2021, Sylvia answered the call from God, accepted her wings and bid us all farewell as she quietly transitioned from Earth to Heaven.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Charles Skinner; son: Warner Jr.
Sylvia leaves to cherish her many precious memories, her husband Warner Sr.; daughters: Pamela Singleton and Yvonne Singleton-Caine (John); granddaughters: Malaika Singleton-Towns and Gabrielle Singleton; siblings: Char-Dell Skinner-Edwards (Ronald) and Levi Skinner, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
“I’m Healed, I’m Whole, I’m Happy, I’m Home, I’m with Jesus, I’m Free; Hallelujah, Amen.”
A visitation for Sylvia will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hardage - Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
The Funeral Mass will occur Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 10472 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32246, followed by interment at Greennlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
