Terry is predeceased by his parents, Lawrence Theodore and Mary Theresa Schumacher, and his precious niece, Lori Kay Lyon.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Joyce; twin children Charles Jason and Jennifer Lyn Schumacher (William C. Thompson); his grandson, Toby Terrance Schumacher; brother, Tommy Schumacher (Ken); sisters Rita Auer; Jo Lyon (Butch); Carol Tate (Gary); Nanci Watkins (Bill); Patty Richie; Judy McDarby (Ed); Kay Schumacher and a host of nieces and nephews.
Terry's earliest business ventures included delivering newspapers, shining shoes and delivering pizza for Howard's Pizza House. As his teenage years passed and he relocated from East Grand Forks, MN to Fort Lauderdale, FL, his jobs turned to positions at various hardware stores and designing kitchen cabinetry. He found his real niche when he began his career at Barnett in 1978. The company name changed throughout the years, ultimately becoming Interline Brands; his home locations and his title also changed over the years, but his passion for "Selling Like a Champion Everyday" remained steadfast and uppermost in his mind!
He was an accomplished fisherman and had recently enjoyed his first fly fishing experience in Michigan with his sister Jo and her husband Butch; something he had looked forward to for many years. He also had a passion for tending and caring for bonsai trees. His collection had grown to a considerable size over the past 14 years.
Terry loved sports from a very early age and ultimately became a true blue and loyal fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He had a dream come true on September 5th, 2009 when he and his dear friend, Eddie O'Hearn, toured the campus and cheered their team to victory. Go Irish!
The cause nearest and dearest to his heart was becoming an advocate for curing breast cancer and he did it with a fierceness exceeded by none. His interaction and numerous fundraising events with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation culminated in his participation in the 2009 Row for the Cure. It was there that he was presented with the first ever Terry Schumacher Row for the Cure Volunteer Award in honor of a man whose courage and spirit were surpassed only by his tireless efforts to eradicate breast cancer forever.
Terry's grandson, Toby Terrance, was truly the sunshine of his life. Terry had such a sparkle in his eye the day Toby was born. It was a match made in heaven. Terry was blessed with three wonderful years to share with Toby and no one could have been a prouder "Papa".
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring. Your exemplary care, compassion and kindness gave Terry great peace and comfort during his end of life journey.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 28th, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL.
