

Theodora A. Skarlis passed away on November 28, 2014 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born in Wichita, KS on October 22, 1927. Beloved wife of the late Robert P. Skarlis, daughter of Pete Anthony and Stamatia Stathaki Anthony, sister of Opal A. Panos and Juanita A. Keffalas, all of whom predeceased her. Loving mother of Stacy S. Howell - wife of William D. Howell of Vincent, OH, Stephanie S. Burt - wife of Thomas K. Burt of Fleming Island, FL, and Dr. Dean Skarlis - husband of Maggie W. Skarlis of Albany, NY who survive her along with five grandchildren, Michelle Burt, Tommy Burt, Billy Howell, Christin Howell, and Jacob Skarlis. She was passionately devoted to her family and her church. She was also an impactful educator, earning an undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1949 and a Master's in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Pittsburgh in 1953. Meeting her future husband through mutual friends they married in 1958 and settled in his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. As a professional she taught English and Spanish at North Hills High School until she became a mother and chose to focus on raising her three children, whom she loved deeply. She served her community in countless philanthropic endeavors including a girl scout leader, President of the PTA, President of the her church's Philoptochos, member of the Greek Room Committee, President of the Churchill Woman’s Club and President of the Women's International Club of The University of Pittsburgh, and member of the Federated Republican Women of Nassau County, FL. Theodora was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church. She and her husband faithfully served their church and traveled the world. She brought a special energy, joy, laughter, and love to all with whom she came in contact. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Canonsburg, PA, St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Oklahoma City, OK, or St. John The Divine Greek Orthodox Church in Jacksonville, FL. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in St. John The Divine Greek Orthodox Church with Trisagion Prayers at 6:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. Nicholas G. Louh officiating
