It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Theodore Allen Finch, Jr, affectionately known as Ted, who left us on 12/19/2024. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an exceptional member of his community.
Born on 12/4/1946 in Menasha, WI, Ted was the second child of Theodore Allen Finch, Sr, and his wife Ruth Elizabeth (Dennis) Finch. He graduated from Michigan Technological University with a BS in Civil Engineering and served in the United States Navy as a communications officer during the Vietnam War.
After serving in the Navy, Ted spent over forty years working as a Civil Engineer in Wisconsin, Florida, and Georgia where he was respected for his hard work, dedication, and expertise in the field. During his career, he developed numerous roadways around Northeast Florida, but he was most proud of his involvement in the construction of the Napoleon Bonaparte Broward Bridge, otherwise known as the Dames Point bridge, that helped connect Arlington and the Northside of Jacksonville. Even during his partial retirement, he worked with FEMA to help rebuild roadways in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.
Ted met the love of his life and best friend while working in Platteville, WI, Sandra K (Bradley) Finch, and they were married for forty-five wonderful years. They were blessed with two children, NiCole and Joshua, whom they both loved and adored. Ted was a dedicated family man who was very involved in coaching both of his children in baseball and softball throughout their childhoods. He was a man of integrity, honesty and affability who welcomed so many into his home, treating them all like family.
Ted had a fondness for football, golf, and was an avid reader in his free time. He was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers and had the honor to attend the 1967 NFL Championship game that would become known as the Ice Bowl due to the frigid temperatures reached during the game. He became a Green Bay Packers shareholder in 2022. During his full retirement he volunteered with ShotLink and worked The Players Championship at Sawgrass. He was known for his infectious laughter, his kind heart, and his willingness to help others.
He is survived by his wife Sandra K (Bradley) Finch, his children NiCole A. Finch and Joshua A. Finch, his sister Kay Peterson, and many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly. A visitation for Ted will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 5:00 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL, 32223. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Community Hospice in his name in honor of their care and dedication to Ted during his last moments. Ted will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace.
