
Ted was born September 7, 1919 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was one of two children born to Chris and Antonia Poulos.
Ted grew up in Jacksonville and was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1943 with a BA in architecture.
Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was initially stationed in Washington, D.C. where he met his future wife, Angela Savvas. He spent the remainder of WWII on Oahu, Hawaii examining aerial reconnaissance photos for intelligence gathering. Ted returned to Washington, D.C. following the war and married Angela in 1946. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before her passing in 1997.
Ted began his career in architecture in Washington, DC, as part of the team working toward the completion of the National Cathedral. He and Angela moved to Jacksonville in 1949 where he later joined the architectural firm of W. Kenyon Drake and Associates, subsequently becoming its sole partner until his retirement in1986. During his career, Ted served as the President of the Florida Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. A man of many interests, Ted enjoyed fishing and hunting, reading and music. Following his retirement, he studied watercolor painting and produced many original paintings.
Ted was a long-time member of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church where he served on numerous committees and the Parish Council.
He is survived by two daughters Christine (Phil) Wyrick and Laura (Greg) Bacalis; a brother Teddy (Pat) Poulos; two nieces Cassandra Poulos and Roxanne Attanasio; a great nephew Christopher Attanasio and several cousins.
Trisagion and funeral services will be held at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, 3850 Atlantic Blvd., with the Rev. Dr. Nicholas Louh and the Rev. Dr. Milton Magos officiating. The Trisagion service will be held on Sunday, January 23, at 5 PM, and family will receive visitors afterwards. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 24 at 11 AM.
Memorial donations may be made to St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church or to Mayo Clinic Florida Parkinson’s Disease Research.
