

Thomas Vance Bogard, 79, passed away Tuesday, March 28. Born in Miami, Florida, Tom was the only son of the late R.V. and Mildred L. Bogard. He graduated from Miami Jackson High School in 1955 and attended Stetson University and later, the University of Miami. Since moving to Jacksonville in 1983, Tom was a member of Mandarin United Methodist Church. Consistent with his lifelong calling to minister to others, he was instrumental in starting their Helping Hands ministry, which does odd jobs and repairs for church members in need. He was a Past Master of F&AM Oleeta Lodge #145. By profession, he was a stone mason who took great pride in his work, the last of which can be seen in the gathering space of the Mandarin UMC Family Life Center. Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carole Moore, daughter; Deborah (Joseph) DeRouin, son; Mark (Packie), six grandchildren; Hannah, Vance (Faith), Andrew (Jamee), Daniel, David, Rachel, and his first great-grandson, due in August. Tom enjoyed a special birthday breakfast every year in Tennessee with his oldest grandson, Vance, who shared his birthday. Tom will be missed by many. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 1, at 2:00 pm in Mandarin United Methodist Church 11270 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223. Pastor Mike Groos will be presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made through Mandarin United Methodist Church for the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home.
