It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Todd James Mound, 56, of Jacksonville, Florida, on January 7, 2025. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on January 1, 1969, Todd was the beloved son of Albert “Jim” Mound and Alice Mound.
Todd graduated from Martin County High School in 1987, where his love for carpentry and fixing things first took root. While serving in the Navy, he went on to earn a degree from Columbia College, which laid the foundation for a distinguished career that combined technical expertise and leadership.
Todd’s professional journey spanned over three decades, during which he demonstrated unparalleled dedication and skill. His 21 years in the United States Navy included roles in operations management, quality assurance, and team leadership. He rose to the rank of Aviation Electronics Technician Chief Petty Officer (E7), where he was also an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and Naval Aircrewman. Aircrafts that he had the joy of working on were SH-3, C-9B, and C-130. After 9/11, he flew supplies from San Diego to Andrew AFB on September 13th, 2011. It was his job to fly troops and supplies. He was the proud recipient of the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal and the Armed Forces Service Medal.
He mostly enjoyed traveling and seeing the world. His daughters still have gifts he brought back from Australia, Italy, and Japan. After retiring from the Navy, Todd continued to excel in the private aerospace industry, holding supervisory and technical roles at Triumph Aerostructures and Tyonek Services, where his expertise in avionics and commitment to quality were widely recognized. Before his passing, Todd was an aviation electrician for Boeing.
Family was Todd’s greatest treasure. He was endlessly proud of his daughters, Brittnee Mound-Watson (Orlando) and Jaimee Imamovic (Jacksonville), and found boundless joy in his grandchildren, Rylee, Malik, Mikel, and Reece. Whether watching movies with Malik, enjoying tickle time with Reece, or tossing Mikel onto the bed during their nightly ritual, Todd’s love for his family knew no bounds.
Todd found immense joy in life’s simple and profound pleasures. Whether he was salmon fishing with his daughters in Washington state, hunting, or walking the beach in search of shark teeth, he cherished the great outdoors. A lifelong coin collector and history enthusiast, Todd delighted in discovering stories from the past and sharing them with those he loved.
Todd’s creativity and dedication were evident in the many projects he undertook, from building a Bernoulli box for Brittnee’s science fair to constructing a treehouse and swing set for his granddaughter. A lover of science fiction, he found joy in “Star Wars,” “Star Trek,” and the stories that sparked his imagination.
Todd’s love extended beyond his family to his community and the world around him. He had a deep passion for Detroit Lions football, scuba diving in the Florida Keys, and perfecting recipes inspired by his family’s heritage. An animal lover with a generous spirit, Todd found happiness in making others smile through thoughtful gestures and gifts. Todd’s life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and adventure. He was a man who loved “The Old Man and the Sea,” “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and Snoopy, and he embodied the wisdom, kindness, and humor found in those stories.
Todd is survived by daughters, Brittnee Mound-Watson and Jaimee Imamovic; grandchildren, Rylee, Malik, Mikel, and Reece; his mother, Alice Mound; sister, Michelle Dominick; and many dear friends and family members who will carry his memory forward.
Rest in peace, Todd. Your love and light will live on in the hearts of all who knew you.
A visitation for Todd will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 10 AM to 12 PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32223.
