Born May 26, 1958 in Folkston, Georgia to Ulysses G. Skipper, Sr and Rosetta Kinsey Skipper, both of whom predeceased him. Skip graduated from Camden County (GA) High School, where he excelled in football, baseball, and wrestling, and a love of sports would carry through his life.
Skip began his career with Gilman Paper in St. Mary’s, Georgia, where he held a number of roles. After leaving Gilman in 2000, he made a life change and obtained his realtor’s license, which was a perfect fit for a man who literally never met a stranger. During the last two decades, Skip assisted many families in finding their dream homes. He worked with Coldwell Banker Vanguard Realty in Jacksonville at the time of his death.
The quintessential southern gentleman, Skip embodied the virtues we hold most dear: honor, respect, humility, integrity and compassion. With twinkling eyes and a ready smile always lurking in the corner of his lips, Skip gave the very best of himself to his family, friends, and strangers (who soon became lifelong friends). Skip was deeply rooted in his faith and to his home. He treasured his weekly golf game, cheered faithfully for his Georgia Bulldogs, and appreciated good wine, scotch, and all things chocolate. Most importantly, he adored his family.
Simply put, Skip loved: His soulmate Laura, to whom he was devoted for 37 years; his beloved daughter Jordan (Skipper) Swilley and her husband Ben; his cherished grandson Benson Skipper Swilley; along with a large and loving extended family.
A celebration of Skip’s remarkable life will be held on September 8, 2021 from 5pm - 7pm at Hardage Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223. (hgmandarin.com).
