

Hewitt: Van C. Hewett, faithful husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and respected businessman, passed away on Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24, 2012. He was born December 12th, 1923, in Bartow, Florida, and spent most of his childhood and teen years in the Lovedale/Two Egg area of Jackson County, Florida. Van served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Upon the war’s end, he was honorably discharged from the Coast Guard and returned to Jackson County, where he met his future wife, Iva L. Marshall. After a short courtship, they were married August 3, 1946. They moved to Jacksonville after the birth of their first child, where Van began his hardware career with Towers Hardware, working in the builders’ hardware division. In 1963, he and a business partner founded Quality Hardware & Specialty Company, which is still in operation. Van was a tireless worker and a great example for his employees. He treated all of his customers with respect and always tried to treat his employees fairly. His first love was his family, but his second was Quality Hardware
.
He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, employees and customers. He leaves behind his sweetheart and loving wife of 66 years, Iva L. Hewett. He I is also survived by a son, Dan (Reba) and a daughter, Marie Deen (Robin), as well as seven grandchildren, three great granddaughters and three brothers. He is predeceased by one daughter, four brothers and two sisters.
The family will receive friends at the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., from 6 – 8 pm on Friday, December 28, 2012. Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, December 29th in the Chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
