Skipper was born in Dallas, Texas on June 3, 1944. Her mother was living with her mother-in-law in Ennis Texas while her father George served in the Army Air Force in Italy. Unfortunately, her father's aircraft was shot down over the Czech Republic on February 22, 1944, while on a mission. Skipper's mother Evelyn lived with her in-laws for a while, but eventually moved back to her hometown, Jacksonville, Florida. Skipper's mother eventually met and married Donald Bolton, who had his own insurance agency in Jacksonville.
Skipper was raised in Jacksonville where she attended school at San Jose Elementary and Bartram, an all-girls school, from which she graduated. At about this time, she met Jack Miller and they started dating. She attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas where she pledged and was initiated into Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She eventually transferred to FSU for a semester and then to the University of Florida. She and Jack continued to date and eventually married on December 23, 1963.
In the ensuing years, Skipper moved several times as Jack pursued his career. Moves included Richmond, Va, Pensacola, Florida, Norfolk, Va, Chattanooga, Tn, Overland Park, Ks, and finally back to Jacksonville in 2000 where they lived for the rest of their lives.
Skipper was a homemaker. She was also active in the community. She served on the Women's Auxiliary at Baptist Hospital and worked at the Jewish Community Alliance for several years. She was a member of Lakewood Presbyterian Church for 47 years, taught Sunday School for several years, was on several women's committees and served her church well.
She and Jack moved into Westminster Woods on Julington Creek in 2019. Skipper was active in the knitting group, attended vespers service most weeks, and participated in other groups on campus including monthly dinners in Creekside and Eastwood.
She is survived by her husband, Jack, sons John and Brady, grandchildren Chris, Lyndsay and Jennifer and great grandchildren Camden, Olivia, Cassius, Hailey and Madelyn.
She was a wonderful, Christian woman who was loved dearly by her friends and family and will be sorely missed. We love her.
A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville.
