Victoria "Vicki" Elizabeth Stone Ettlinger was born September 6, 1945, during a mandatory lights out along the Jacksonville Beach coast, as World War II, raged, to avoid being spotted by enemy submarines. She spent her first months swaddled in a drawer pulled from her mother's dresser as her father served his country overseas. After an adventurous and full life, she went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 3, 2017.
Vicki, known as "Sugar" to all, never met a stranger throughout her entire life. She was brought into this world to make all around her smile, and her mission of spreading joy never waned. After college, Vicki worked for her family business, McMillan Bedding Company, where she served in sales and public relations, appearing frequently in television ads. She went on to develop and patent Mattress Magnets. Vicki's life was peppered with larger than life experiences from riding in a pace car at the opening of the Indy 500, performing on stage at a Broadway show, her life changing trip to Karlovy Vary or swimming with the dolphins at Atlantis. Bowling at Jax Lanes, dancing, dining, sharing stories and making all those around her laugh, especially her Art, was her passion. Vicki loved her family and friends, making all those around her feel accepted, loved and valued. She loved attending her grandchildren's sporting and academic events, as well as, grandparent's day, for over twenty years at The Bolles School. She enjoyed warm laughter, heartfelt hugs, playing card games and taking immaculate care of her beloved puppies: Bridgette, Beignet, Bijan, Barkley Cole and Cocoa. No room will ever be quite as bright and she truly leaves the world better for having been here.
She was predeceased by her parents, Vester C. "Dedaddy" and Bishop Nina “Nonnie” Stone; her brother, James Naurice "Jimmy" Stone; her dear friend and first husband, Dr. Clark V. Hoshall Jr.; and her son in law, Charles Haimowitz.
She is survived by her loving husband of thirty years, Arthur Ettlinger, devoted father and grandfather; her six children to include her precious daughters, Paige Hakimian (Benjamin S. Hakimian) Ellen Haimowitz, Lynne Blow (Carl Blow) Grace Blackwell (Mark Blackwell) and her two beloved sons, Bill Ettlinger (Rebecca Ettlinger) and Clark V Hoshall III “Dax”( Beshka Hoshall). She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Blair, Haley, Blake, Hunter, Brighton, and Hollin Hakimian (Paige and Ben); Bryan Blackwell (Grace and Mark); and Eva (Bill and Rebecca).
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, February 12 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 4171 Hendricks Ave, 32207.
