Vicki Lynn Sharpe, age 60, passed away peacefully January 15, 2021 due to complications with diabetes. She was born November 17, 1960 in Alabaster, Alabama to Lucretia and Kenneth Caton. On June 11, 1977, she married her first love and longtime friend, Richard Dean Sharpe, who was at her side until the very end.
Vicki truly cared about people. Her family was her life. She would stop whatever she was doing to tend to the needs of others. Always putting others first, her own needs would rest by the wayside. When her husband had cancer, she never let his side. She learned how to take care of him so she could bring him home. She showed us all what “true love” is.
Vicki’s hands were rarely still. Her hobbies included caring for God’s creations through planting trees and gardening. Vicki created the most beautiful things by her own hands and was the Queen of “Up-Cycle”. She could transform any trash into a “treasure”.
Vicki was the “neighborhood mom”. Many of the kids in the neighborhood thought of her as their “second mom”. She took in kids that needed a place to sleep. She took in animals that needed a home. She took in a Pitbull, “Boomer”, who never left her side. She is preceded in death by “Boomer” and survived by “Gunnar” who misses his mom dearly.
Vicki is preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Caton and her Uncle David Gaddy. Vicki is survived by her husband, Richard Dean Sharpe; her two children and their wives, Jonathan and Sherri Sharpe, Matthew and Stephanie Sharpe; her grandchild Dominick Taylor; her mother, Lucretia Caton; her aunt Babs Gaddy; her “adopted neighborhood kids” Kevin Raulerson, Scott Hayes, Duane Bennett, Kevin Paddie and Corey Zurvalec.
The family opted out of a formal ceremony, and instead had an intimate celebration of her life at their home on Sunday, January 17, 2021. Please feel free to share condolences and memories on the website at www.hgmandarin.com.
