Victor P. Mackoul, DDS, a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, died February 5, 2016 at age 82. He was the firstborn son of immigrant parents, Afifeh & Mitchell Mackoul. In 1951, he graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. He then received his Bachelor’s and Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Emory University. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity and served in the U.S. Army Dental Division at Ft. Sam Houston. Victor spent decades caring for his patients and providing quality dentistry to people near and far. Even after retiring, he continued practicing dentistry because of his love for the profession, his family and his friends. Dr. Mackoul was Past President of the Jacksonville Dental Society, the NE District Dental Society, and the Academy of Dentistry. He was a member of the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists, FL Dental Association, American Equilabration Society and American Academy of Crown and Bridge. He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral.
Victor was a man of many interests and hobbies outside of his love for dentistry. His sense of adventure and love of the outdoors led him to pursue annual camping trips out west where he enjoyed whitewater rafting, cooking and exploring the back roads. He was an avid fisherman and loved being on his boat. Victor developed great photographic skills at an early age and documented his many travels, his family, friends, and the great western scenery. He also had a passion for O-Gauge model trains and spent hours entertaining others with his collection. Everyone who met Victor knew he was a dedicated University of Florida fan. He attended football games for years and more recently watched every game on TV joined by friends and family. Memorabilia of the “Gators” can be found throughout his home.
Victor’s main love and focus was always family. Left to cherish and honor his memory are his three daughters, Carol, Kristen and Marla Mackoul; his son, Mitchell Mackoul; his granddaughter, Kimberly Mackoul; his brother, Walter E. Mackoul (wife, Jackie and children, Melissa and Scott); his sister, Renee M. Klein, (children, Raymond, Ronnie and Robin); loving cousins and cherished friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother-in-law, Dr. H. Raymond Klein. Victor’s wonderful sense of humor and enjoyment of life spread to everyone around him. His tremendous spirit, sense of adventure, warm smile, and loving way will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
