Everyone knew him as “Dude “
PASSED AWAY SEPTEMBER 10 , 2023 of natural causes .
He was born and raised in Jacksonville Florida, and lived a few houses down from his parents, on Milmar Dr. South. He didn’t fall far from the tree, he was well known and loved by his Milmar neighbors and all their pets , Dude had to give treats to all of them, if the pets saw Dude walking , he better have a snack in his pocket or they would whine till he fed them.
Dude was preceded in death by his parents Virgil D Thomas Jr ( 1-10-1996) and Mary Jo Thomas (6-29-2019)
Dude is survived by his brother Al Thomas , Sister Susie Thomas Neal (Jack) Dudes sister from another mother Mary Jane Nelson Barnes , many nieces and nephews, Jody Barry II, Walker Thomas , Gabe Thomas , Kym Adkins (Jeff) Andrew Neal (Lani) Alice and Lucas Barry, Mason and Reagan Atkins .
Dude also had his St Jude kids which he was faithful to and supported for many many years .
Dude had so many great and dear friends , many of them were from elementary school through high school and beyond . He had many lifelong friends from the Local Plumbers and Pipefitters .
Dude’s friends were for life .
He gave all his special girls at Englewood High School very funny nicknames . And to this day, they all remember their nicknames .
He was a proud member of the Coast Guard, our neighbor Captain Sullivan helped him with that .
He was also a long-standing member of the Local 234 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union(along with his Dad and brother Al ) and in Dudes retirement , He worked many Saturdays at their food bank, taking in food and necessities at the Union Hall for people that were less fortunate.
Dude loved, going to the Local Unions yearly luncheons and bringing Mom back a plate of goodies to eat.
Dudes retirement was also filled with protecting his Honey buddy Jimmy Vaughan , it was almost like an Englewood reunion where they would be out there selling honey in the Church parking lot on the corner of Hogan and Parental Home.
He loved talking about politics, cars, trucks and he loved talking about Bible scriptures, you could ask him anything that required a scripture for guidance and he could reference it to a Bible scripture, he knew them well.
Dude is with his Lord and Savior, happy and well.
He will be missed by everyone that knew him .
RIP Dude 🙏
