Virginia (Jinny) Kincaid Myers Burford, a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend, went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ after 49 years of a remarkable life on December 15, 2023. Jinny fought a 16 month battle against angiosarcoma with grace, courage, dignity, and strength.
Born on February 20, 1974 in Jacksonville, Florida, Jinny’s life was a testimony to unwavering love for her Lord, family, and friends. She grew up in Jacksonville attending San Jose Episcopal Day School and Bolles. Jinny obtained her BA in Theatre and Education in 1996 from Converse College, Spartanburg, South Carolina. She met Ken Burford, the love of her life, while in college and they married in July, 1997. They moved to California for 9 years. During that time, Jinny taught school, mentored youth at her church, and delivered her first daughter, Caidy.
In 2006, she returned to Jacksonville pregnant with her second daughter, Emily. After a short time as a “stay at home Mom” Jinny returned to the work force and was a loyal employee of North Florida OBGYN/Women’s Care Florida for 15 years.
Jinny was affectionately compared to the Disney character “Tigger”. She was a “Nope, not today” kind of girl! She always chose the fun side life and enjoyed collecting cherished memories. Her fun loving nature, beautiful infectious smile, and personality radiated throughout her life. She loved Disney World; at the drop of a hat she would put her girls in the car and head to Orlando for a day of fun. Jinny’s creative skills were evident in her scrapbooking, planning and decorating thematic Father-daughter dances, and baking birthday cakes for family and friends.
Jinny’s life was impactful and inspirational. She will be remembered for her love of Christ, family, friends, and the youth she mentored through various youth ministries including Pioneer Girls, Truth Quest, and Operation Christmas Child.
Jinny is survived by her parents, Dr. Richard and Betty Myers; brother, Matt Myers; husband, Ken, and daughters, Caidy and Emily. Additional surviving family members are Uncle Tommy Myers; mother-in- law, Linda Burford; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Breston and her husband Matt, along with multiple cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Stephen and Amelia Myers; father-in-law, Ken Burford, and Uncles Steve Myers and Bill Kincaid.
Jinny’s well lived and well loved life will be celebrated on January 8, 2024 at 10:30 am in the north auditorium of Christian Family Chapel, 10365 Old St. Augustine Road, Jacksonville, Florida. A lunch reception will follow. Please feel free to wear your favorite “Tigger” t-shirt or sweatshirt in Jinny’s honor.
