Virginia Elizabeth Wilkes Exley died October 14, 2015 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born November 27, 1924 to Hugar and Elizabeth Wilkes in Athens, Georgia. In 1944, she graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Home Economics. Mrs. Exley moved to Jacksonville upon her marriage to Irby Sheck Exley, Sr. on March 30, 1947. For 65 years, she was a member of Ortega United Methodist Church. Throughout the community she was known as a dedicated volunteer.
Mrs. Exley was predeceased by her husband, Irby Sheck Exley, Sr. (who died in 2010) and two of her three children, I. Sheck Exley, Jr. and Edward Wilkes Exley. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Exley, and granddaughters, Laura Elizabeth Paulsen and Sarah Exley Paulsen.
