She was born on November 2, 1953, in Brooklyn, NY, the second daughter of Shirley Lemus and the late Joseph Lemus.
A graduate of Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, Wendy earned a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan where she majored in merchandising.
On August 11, 1974, Wendy married Barry Efron. After putting him through medical school in Cleveland, in 1978 the couple move to Jacksonville, Florida where they enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life.
In-between rearing sons Sammy and Andrew, Wendy held part-time positions in the field she loved -- fashion and design. Always exuding a warm and vivacious personality, she was a popular presence in the Jacksonville community where she held leadership roles in organizations such as ORT, Temple Sisterhood, River Garden, Jacksonville Jewish Federation, and Foster Care Review Board.
A long time member of Temple Ahavath Chesed in Jacksonville, Wendy also happily volunteered as the buyer for the temple's Judaica gift shop for over 20 years.
Self proclaimed foodies, Wendy and Barry loved fine dining and traveled the globe to experience the world's top restaurants. They shared this passion with their son Sam, who was inspired to open the popular Taverna Restaurant in San Marco.
In recent years, Wendy's greatest joy was her role as grandmother to Dillon, 4; Brody, 8 months; and Sadie, 4 months.
Wendy is survived by her husband Barry, sons Sam and Andrew, daughter-in-laws Kiley and Sabrina, grandsons Dillon and Brody, granddaughter Sadie, mother Shirley Lemus, aunt Sylvia "Bebe" Marin, sister Rhonda Warren, brother Mitch Lemus, and nieces and nephews.
The Efron family would like to thank everyone from the Jacksonville community and beyond who shared Wendy's rich and meaningful life, and who surrounded her with so much love and support during her final days.
Prior to her passing, Wendy requested that these words be relayed to her friends:
"I want you all to know just how much I love you and appreciate our friendship. My friends have meant the world to me. We shared so many good times together, I only wish there was more time I could have spent with each of you. The outpouring of love and support you've shown during my illness has been a huge source of comfort and truly touched my heart. Oh, and cancer sucks!"
