Willia Mae Taylor (Griffis) left this world on November 30, 2013 at the age of 86 to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As a devout follower of Jesus, she demonstrated what it meant to love and forgive like Christ.
At a young age, she left Union County to find work in Jacksonville. She worked briefly at the Foremost Dairy where she met her husband, Homer J. Taylor. She was married to Homer for 68 years, he preceded her in death by four months.
She was a faithful wife, devout mother and loving grandmother and great grandmother. She fully embraced the title of "Meems" as she loved to spoil her grandchildren, and more recently her great-grandchildren. Cooking was her passion, along with the flowers that surrounded her house. She lived a life dedicated to the service of others. One could read Proverbs 31 to gain an accurate description of Willia Mae and her 86 years here on earth.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her siblings Herman Griffis, Dorthy Shadd, Leeman Shadd, and D.L. Shadd. She is survived by daughter Linda (Taylor) Hodges (David C. Hodges, Sr); her son Wayne Taylor (Sandra); brothers Lowell Shadd (Paulette), Leon Shadd, Leslie Shadd (Caroline), and sister Wanda Barber; grandchildren David C. Hodges, Jr. (Cara), Daniel W. Hodges (Amy), and Douglas T. Hodges (Janan); and 9 great-grandchildren (Lauren, Jack, Clayton, Brad, Caroline, Tyler, Catie, Chloe, and Tucker)
The family will receive guests on Wednesday December 4th at First Coast Baptist Church, 7587 Blanding Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32244, from 11:30 AM till 1:00 PM. The service will begin at 1:00 in the main auditorium and a graveside service will follow. The Reverend Dwight Durbin will officiate.
