William S. Hewlett, 88, born in Wilmington, N.C. passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard in June of 1943 and served on a Destroyer Escort during WWII. In 1951, he graduated from the University of North Carolina. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve in 1958 and retired in 1985 with the rank of captain. He and his wife, Martha, and son, Jeff moved to Jacksonville with the ACL Railroad in 1960. He retired from the Seaboard System Railroad in July of 1985.
Will was preceded in death by his wife Martha; and is survived by his son, Jeff Hewlett, and his wife, Cathy.
Funeral Services will be held 11am Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, 12236 Mandarin Road, with the Rev. Dr. Robert V. Lee III presiding.
