William E. McCallum

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of William Edgar “Gabby” McCallum, 96, of Jacksonville, Florida, who left us peacefully on May 24, 2026. Born on July 15, 1929, Eddie spent most of his childhood in Jacksonville, FL, and graduated from Jackson High School in 1947. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, receiving the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal, and in the Navy Seabees, where he was a soldier in the specialized, fighting construction force of the U.S. Navy. In addition to his time in the military, Eddie devoted almost 45 years of service as an Engineer in the Public Works Division of the City of Jacksonville where he was greatly respected for his dedication, skill, and steady commitment to his community.

Eddie is reunited in heaven with wife, Audrey McCallum; his parents, William and Bessie McCallum; and his brother, Thomas Alan McCallum, Sr.

Eddie will be deeply missed by his daughter, Sharon Brown (Glenn); one granddaughter, Shelley Grant (Bill); two great-granddaughters, Brooke Gonzalez (Brandon) and Caroline Grant; three great-great-grandchildren, Liam Ostensen, Magnolia Gonzalez, and Lana Gonzalez; one nephew, Thomas Alan McCallum, Jr. (Cathy); and one great-nephew, Thomas Alan McCallum III (Alisha).

To know Eddie was to know how much he cherished spending time with his family, going fishing and hunting with his friends at Two Gate Hunting Club, cheering on the Florida Gators, and, of course, smoking a good cigar. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his kind nature, giving spirit, and unmatched gift of “gab.”

A celebration of his many well-lived years will be held at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd., on Saturday, May 30. Visitation with his family begins at 9am with a service immediately following at 10am. All guests are invited to a reception after the service so that we can reminisce and honor this man we so dearly loved. A graveside service at 1:30pm at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 N. Main Street, will conclude the day. All are welcome.

Pallbearers will be Tommy McCallum, Bill Grant, Autrey Allen, Timmy Carter, Ray Miley, and Michael Potter.
