

MCMILLAN, William “Bill” of Hartsville, Tennessee passed from this life suddenly on 9 January 2011 in the presence of our Lord during church services at the Providence Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Hartsville, Tennessee.
He was born at home on 9 December 1944 in Appling County, Georgia to the late Arlie McMillan and the late Gladys Clements and was later raised by his grandparents the late Zary Y. McMillan and the late Mary A. Nipper. Bill graduated from Surrency High School in Georgia.Mr. McMillan was married in Jacksonville, Florida to Carolyn Elaine Vinson the daughter of the late Max A. Vinson, Sr. and the late Grace L. Blackburn of Jacksonville, Florida on 17 April 1965.
Bill was an amazing husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed his work and he loved his new home and community in Tennessee. He and Elaine moved to Hartsville shortly after he retired in 2004. He named his new home Goat Hill, a place where his grandchildren, nieces and nephews spent many enjoyable days, summers and holidays. He always enjoyed working in the yard, or on some project or another. He treasured his time helping his family, neighbors, friends and spending time at his church.
Mr. McMillan is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elaine, and their two children, William Nathan (Bridget M. Tiernan) McMillan of Miami, Florida and Grace Denise (James H., Jr) Osburn of Jacksonville, Florida and six grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Pappy” - Matthew G. Osburn, Carrie A. Osburn, Autumn C. McMillan, Keeli E. McMillan, Malcolm E. McMillan and Ginny K. McMillan.
Other survivors include his brother Quincy McMillan; two Aunts, Bertha Ansley and Eula Lee Page; three uncles, Curtis McMillan, Jesse McMillan, and Odias McMillan; his brother and sister-in-law Sam and Linda Vinson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mr. McMillan worked for nearly 37 years for CSX Transportation in Jacksonville, Florida and was a member of the United Transportation Union (UTU).
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of your choice or the Providence Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Hartsville, Tennessee.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 6 – 8 pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 22 at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida.
